Optimisation

Get the most out of your database!

OptimaData gladly supports you to get the most out of your database. A combination of outdated versions, increasing use, and expansion of the application’s landscape and upgrades could cause your database to become slower. We help you to enhance your performance through a proven, structured approach. Look at the graph alongside this text for an illustration of the results of a random one-day tuning.

Examples of how we can help you out:

QuickScan

During a database QuickScan, the whole of the database environment will be examined. All aspects of your database environment are inspected during this consultancy process: both the logical and the technical data model, the hardware platform, the generic settings, performance and tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.

A QuickScan starts with an elaborate questionnaire. This questionnaire prepares our consultant for an interview session with the client. Consequently, the consultant would like to discuss all ins and outs of the database (including the applications that are connected to it) with a minimum of 2 employees, on location.

After the interview, an elaborate Consultancy QuickScan Report will be delivered, based on analysis of the information obtained during the interview. During the presentation of the report, the findings and recommendations will be explained and discussed with the client.

There is a fixed price for the execution of a QuickScan.

Performance tuning

Database performance tuning takes specialised knowledge. How this tuning needs to be handled depends on several factors. By combining the right tooling and our practical experience, performance gain can often be achieved in one day already. One-day tuning is a cheaper alternative to a QuickScan, but is definitely not a replacement.

Basically, we advise you to run a QuickScan, so we get to know the ins and outs of the database and the applications or websites that are connected to it. This way, OptimaData can execute the performance tuning with optimal and lasting results.

The type of database (Data Warehouse or Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)), the size of the database, the quality of the data model – both logical and technical – the database version, the Operating System and hardware are all key factors when it comes to performance tuning. OptimaData database professionals have executed performance tuning for databases made up of hundreds of Gigabytes. Additionally, OptimaData has installed connection pooling for several clients with big OLTP systems, for instance.

Performance tuning requires a balance between safety and performance. High performance can cause risks for the safety of the data. This means that, in case of a system crash, not all data is stored on disk and recovery is impossible. Synchronous or asynchronous replication could be alternative solutions.

SQL Server best practices, MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL configuration parameter tuning are all determining factors for the availability of the systems and an optimal performance. OptimaData Consultancy can realise improved performance in a short amount of time!

Benchmarking

Measurement equals knowledge! By having one or more benchmarks performed on your database platform, you can gain insight into the optimal configuration. This concerns infrastructure, as well as operating system settings, database configuration, and disk layout. Using a select set of tooling and consultancy experiences, OptimaData can present you with trustworthy results after performing a benchmark. This will provide you with the necessary insights to take the next step in the right direction.

A benchmark provides you with the opportunity to check out the environment that allows your database to function optimally.
