PostgreSQL 17 released!

Today, the PostgreSQL Global Development Group is proud to announce the release of PostgreSQL 17, the latest version of the world’s most advanced open-source database. This new version builds on decades of development and offers significant improvements in performance, scalability and support for new data storage and access models.

Renewal

PostgreSQL 17 brings several important innovations. These include a completely new memory system for the “vacuum” function, which provides much more efficient use of memory and improved performance. In addition, we see optimizations in storage access and faster query execution, which will be especially noticeable for databases with high concurrent workloads. This ensures that companies large and small will benefit from more stable and faster performance, regardless of the size of their database.

JSON

For developers, PostgreSQL 17 offers new features, such as support for the SQL/JSON standard, with the new JSON_TABLE feature, which makes it easier to work with JSON data. Replication and high availability options have also been further improved, making it easier to manage and upgrade databases.

Community

What makes this release especially special is the strong contribution of the global open source community, which is continuously working on enhancements and new features to keep PostgreSQL accessible to everyone. This is another significant step forward in providing a robust, reliable and extensible database solution for any organization.

For us as a multi-platform database consultancy, it’s great to see how PostgreSQL continues to evolve. We are proud to be part of a community that plays such an important role in the future of data management.
