The Postgres Meetup group of the Netherlands
We are happy to invite you to the next edition of the PostgreSQL User Group NL Meetup on 29 september 2026 in Amsterdam.
This time we have been invited by ABN AMRO to host the event at their offices on the Gustav Mahlerlaan. We are very appreciative of this gesture and would like to thank them for supporting the PostgreSQL community with the venue and the hospitality.
On the agenda we have two great talks. First up is Sebastiaan Mannem, who will take us deep into the PostgreSQL IO subsystem – following data changes from query to datafile, and everything that happens in between. Next on the program is Peter Lengkeek, who will share his journey into CloudNativePG (CNPG).

Postgres IO internals: Between query and datafile – Sebastiaan Mannem (Nibble-IT)
When a query inserts, updates or deletes data (DML), or objects (DDL), these changes end up in the Postgres datafiles, but not immediately. Where does the data end up in between, and which process(es) take care of that? And why, and how? How does Postgres remain consistent, what does it keep consistent, and what is never consistent? And how does the changed data end up on the standby, how is synchronous replication implemented? These are some deep questions, and we will try to tap into many (if not all) of them, and more, as we follow data changes from query, through the PostgreSQL IO subsystem, until it hits the data files.
About Sebastiaan: Technically driven database, container and cloud specialist. Earned my stripes and was battle hardened by the Dutch Government. As CTO of Nibble-IT I do all I can to make our customers successfull with PostgreSQL, which includes: enable with design, build stuff, enable the next generation of consultants and developers.
My journey into CNPG – Peter Lengkeek (DBA for CloudNativePG – Savepoint.nl)
Getting familiar with CloudNativePG, running PostgreSQL on Kubernetes, is not difficult. Install Kubernetes on your Windows or MacBook and start. Create My first cluster, yes! Going further, is for most PostgreSQL DBA’s a bigger step to take. Learning Kubernetes concepts and all the available tooling, related to CloudNativePG and Kubernetes. Often, I see organizations struggling with the implementation of CloudNativePG as a product, although the have chosen the product on corporate level.
In my presentation I share my journey into CloudNativePG. Hopefully, to support PostgreSQL experts to go the same road. Also, I want to reflect some aspects of the implementation of CloudNativePG in organizations.
About Peter: I started 35 years ago, working with Oracle database technology. Mainly in the role of a Database Administrator and Developer, specialized in the combination of technology and organization.
At the beginning of 2024 I started a consultancy job at a client of OptimaData with PostgreSQL database technology. I jumped into a “pressure cooker” to learn all kind of PostgreSQL knowledge, including the Blue Elephant Pack, compared to my reference model of Oracle.
Since August 2024 I’m focused on the CloudNativePG operator for PostgreSQL databases on Kubernetes. For me, the way to go! I was several times a guest lecturer for an intro training CloudNativePG, including the Blue Elephant Pack. I’m happy to help organizations and DevOps teams get the most out of CloudNativePG.

What are Lightning Talks?
A Lightning talk is a short presentation given at a conference or meetup. Unlike other presentations, Lightning Talks last only a few minutes and several are usually given in a short time slot by different speakers. Everyone has the opportunity to give their views, share a short topic or ask for input from the audience in the span of 1 slot.
During the PostgreSQL Usergroup NL meetups, through the Lightning Talks, we provide a low-threshold stage for participants to share their experience and knowledge.
Would you like to submit a Lighting Talk, do you have a short topic, would you like to share something within the PostgreSQL domain or what it touches? Send us an email with your suggestion, your topic, or just your name requesting a time slot and we will schedule you into the Lightning Talks! You can also put your name on the list on the night itself!

Via the A10 ring road, exit S108 (Amstelveenseweg/Zuidas), towards Zuidas. Parking is available at Q-Park Mahler, Aaron Coplandstraat 8, 1082 MG Amsterdam, open 24/7, within walking distance of the office.
Public Transport:
Amsterdam Zuid station is about a 5–10 minute walk from Gustav Mahlerlaan 10. Trains (IC and Sprinter), metro lines 50, 51 and 52, and tram lines 5, 6 and 25 all stop here.
