Save the date: PGDay Lowlands 2025!

On Wednesday, July 2nd, there will be a special edition of the PostgreSQL User Group NL Meetup in Amsterdam.
This time, the meetup is entirely dedicated to CloudNativePG. We’re excited to welcome Gabriele Bartolini, VP of Cloud Native at EDB and an active PostgreSQL contributor. Adyen is kindly hosting and taking care of us for the evening. As always, there will be room for lightning talks, the famous hallway track, and of course, drinks and snacks.
We’re excited to invite you to the CloudNative edition of the PostgreSQL User Group NL Meetup on Wednesday, July 2nd in Amsterdam.
This meetup features a high-impact technical talk by Gabriele Bartolini, who will dive into the topic of migrating PostgreSQL to Kubernetes. After the talk, there will be plenty of time to ask your questions during a live Q&A session.
As always, the program includes space for lightning talks.
If you’d like to present, feel free to reach out to us directly or send a personal message via meetup.com.

Migrating PostgreSQL to Kubernetes: A Practical Guide for Database Administrators
By Gabriele Bartolini– VP CloudNative EDB
Kubernetes is transforming infrastructure management—but what does that mean for your PostgreSQL databases? If you’re a database administrator facing this shift, the path forward can seem complex. In this talk, I’ll share practical guidance for migrating PostgreSQL from traditional environments to Kubernetes, using a fully open-source, community-driven stack based on CloudNativePG—an operator I co-founded and maintain, and which I help evolve as a contributor to the PostgreSQL ecosystem.
Drawing from real-world experience, I’ll walk you through each phase of the journey: assessing your current setup, preparing PostgreSQL for containerisation, selecting the right storage approach, enabling high availability, configuring robust backups, and tuning for performance. I’ll also share lessons learned from production deployments to help you avoid common pitfalls and make informed decisions.
Along the way, you’ll learn how to achieve true data portability across bare-metal, on-premises, hybrid, and public cloud environments; ensure data sovereignty; and avoid vendor lock-in—core principles for organisations seeking long-term flexibility and independence in their data strategy.
If you’re ready to modernise your PostgreSQL operations without compromising on reliability, performance, or control, this session will give you the tools and insights to make it happen—while continuing to retain full ownership and control over your data.
About Gabriele:

What is a lightning Talk?
A Lightning Talk is a short presentation given at a conference or meetup. Unlike regular talks, Lightning Talks last only a few minutes, and are typically delivered in quick succession by multiple speakers. Within one short time slot, anyone can share an idea, give a brief insight into a topic, or ask for feedback from the audience.
At the PostgreSQL User Group NL meetups, Lightning Talks provide an easy and informal platform for participants to share their experience and knowledge.
Would you like to submit a Lightning Talk?
Do you have a short topic to share — related to PostgreSQL or anything that touches on it? Just send us an email with your suggestion, your topic, or even just your name and a request for a time slot, and we’ll make sure to include you in the lineup.
You can also sign up for a Lightning Talk on the night of the meetup — just write your name on the list!
The meetup will be held at Adyen’s office in Amsterdam, located on Simon Carmigeltstraat, just a short walk from Central Station.
Simon Carmiggeltstraat 6 – 50 (Oosterdok)
Amsterdam
From Amsterdam Central Station, it’s just a short walk to Adyen’s office at Oosterdok. If you’re coming by car, there are several parking garages nearby — including options close to the station or, for example, at Albert Heijn Oosterdok.
